Scurry Knows too Much

Starbuck smiles, "By the way, we're getting together to celebrate the cease-fire over at the Recreation Lounge later, maybe you'd like to sit  in on a couple hankds of Pyramid."    I start out, "That's Service Territory, wouldn't the Internal Registrations thing get in the way?"

I am reshuffling the paperwork sheath and am surprised, "Ah-Um, Family-name Scurridae, sub-Archivist, Internal Registrations Cartography Department."    "The Scurridae family of Canceria perhaps?" Starbuck asks.   That really throws me. all I can do is agree.

The Colonial Warrior shuffles through the paperwork, nods, and mutters, "yeah, yeah, and yeah," Frowns when he gets to the sections that Colonel tigh had initialed and signed in big red letters.   "Uhm yeah," the Warrior says, "Everything seems to be in order here, hands back the sheath, "Name's Starbuck, Blue Squadron," smiles,"And you are?"

I keep a straight face and pull out a sheath of paperwork and hand it to the Colonial Warrior, "Actually not," I say, "as you will find, most of this has been drawn from the ships stores," I nod towards the paperwork, "I hope everything is filled out properly. I wouldn't want to be the source of Unneccessary Confusion."

The Colonial Warrior seemed az bit annoyed that here was a cubicle full of cargo and someone was baby-sitting, "This all yours?" he then asks brightly.

Then lat eone night, the door slid open on the cubicle, and the head of a Colonial Warrior stuck in and with a sort of jaunty politeness asks, "Hello, anybody home?"      I was back in a corner trying to bond-glue a slide rack back onto the wall where a hastey laser-weld had snapped off, so the warrior probably didn't see me.

Anyways, some were the usual extroverts, always talking and making jokes. Others moved more quietly, as if having seen too much action. Perhaps everything seemed unreal to them. A few pastdays, they had been at war. Now there was a Rescue, now a cease-fire, and now negotiations about a general armistence seemed ready to begin.

Why blame me? I just got maps for those who worked in Enforcement.  And that is when I started to see them. The distinct brown suede jackets of the Colonial Warriors. They all seemed to be going somewhere else. Nobody noticed me too much. Which may have been for the better for reasons given above.
